Get closer

So, the first networking event is closing in, just a few days away, and we’re all looking forward to it.

But as we know the networking doesn’t begin at the event. It’s important for us to get closer, make it easier for people to see us and what we’re about. It’s also vital to be able to make closer connections with people that share attributes with you. Groups that we’ve seen so far such as venture capital, angels, journalists are good examples, but they aren’t sufficient, and I have to ask, where is the talent? Are they here?

I know none of us probably want to get our geek here, because we feel like we’re excluding other people – but we must – it’s vital to know who can do what so we can make things happen.

So whether you’re an investor, journalist, database programmer or web artist…It’s important that we huddle around those that are similar to us, and that we can see and have good connections to those that are not.

We need networks within this initiative that people can use to connect with the people in different networks to them, so a developer can see who the angels are for example. At the same time, it’s important to break down those networks into more detail, for example, who are the angels that have a good technical understanding of current technology.

We also need groups where we can interact with each other to the exclusion of those not in the group.
So that we can act as more than individuals in doing what we do, we can have greater momentum and flexibility, and so we can learn from and support each other.

That said, groups need to be more useful than just staying in “standby” mode, we need to engage each other so that we can learn about each other, and get things happening.

I think it’s necessary to get closer and have separate network websites for developers, providers, investors, marketers, entrepreneurs. This way the networks can connect richly with each other, and also put themselves out to others more clearly.

In the mean time, I’m suggesting / starting the following groups on this Silicon Cape site, and saying “get together”.

+ Developers https://www.siliconcape.com/group/developers
+ Providers https://www.siliconcape.com/group/providers
+ Entrepreneurs https://www.siliconcape.com/group/entrepreneurs
* Investors
* Marketers
* Accountants
* Lawyers

From there we’ll dive deeper into our own networks.

+ I’ve created these, sign up if you fit the bill.

* I’m leaving these groups for someone else to create, make it happen if you’re a mover!
