The Silicon Cape Website needs a fresh face and we are looking for great website developers that can help us do just this! If you are up for the job, then submit a quote and take note of the following:

Project Overview

The website has recently been redeveloped onto the WordPress site, but needs a new face, a few tweaks and some functionality added. Most of the features are handled by custom post types so a deep understanding of this is required. The ideal person to apply is someone with strong front-end development skills with back-end ability. (or a team that is able to handle all the requests).

Company Overview

Silicon Cape is a community of tech entrepreneurs, developers, creatives, angel investors, and VC’s who are passionate about entrepreneurship and the roles we play in the future of South Africa. As an initiative we have 2 full time staff, 7 volunteers and serve to help the tech community to connect and get to global standards. The website needs to help raise awareness and promote Silicon Cape platform.

Our Audience

Everyone interested in Tech in Cape Town. We have 12 year old entrepreneurs through to the more wise individuals as part of the organisation. The website needs to cater for all ages, and all screens, from mobile through to desktop, on good and bad internet.

Current Website

The website is hosted with Pressable.com, a managed WordPress host. The domains are registered and managed through Namecheap.com. The website is also connected to WordPress.com, using the Jetpack plugin, and a dedicated WordPress.com account.

Deployments of the theme happen via DeployHQ.com, while the plugins are deployed manually via SFTP.

The theme is a custom-developed theme, built on top of Underscores, a theme base codebase developed by Automattic. The theme holds any styling for the plugins listed above, as well as custom implementations. The theme is coded using LESS, and compiled using Grunt.

Powered by WordPress, the website consists of a custom theme, as well as several WordPress plugins:

Externally developed plugins

  • BuddyPress
  • WP Job Manager
  • WooCommerce
  • Jetpack
  • Events Manager

Custom plugins

  • Silicon Cape Partners
  • Silicon Cape Adverts
  • Silicon Cape Resources

Currently Not Working: Member login, External writers management, and some functionality needed. The site is not Mobile friendly and some pages are not properly designed to handle the content elements within them.

New Website

Theme:

We would like a new fresh theme developed. It may consist of an already developed theme, but makes no use of the visual composer, and the theme code is kept clean of any 3rd party plugins needed to make the site “look nice” or functional according to the theme being used.

Plugins:

Plugins need to be kept to an absolute minimum

Functionality needed:

  • Secure user signup & login portal (Event management, contributing writers, membership features, newsletter signup etc.)
  • Contributing writer management and approval of content
  • User Roles enabled
  • Paid Membership with access to members-only deals and/or software (Possibly with WooCommerce, but open to suggestions)
  • Jobs Portal with ability to accept user submissions (and tied in with paid membership features depending on user role type)
  • Implement DFP (Google Double Click for Publishers)
