Time: 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm
In light of Woman’s Month, Magda Wierzycka, CEO of Sygnia, will appear on stage at the well-known entrepreneur platform “Heavy Chef” at Workshop 17, at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, to tell her personal story in becoming one of Africa’s most outspoken and powerful business leaders.
From recent events in the media, any interested observers would be forgiven for thinking that Magda has decided to single-handedly tackle corruption in South Africa. In the space of six months, Magda has exposed how financial services companies rip off consumers, fired Sygnia’s auditors KPMG for their involvement with the hyper-controversial Gupta family and exposed various company’s participation in the SASSA grant scandal.
Sygnia is South Africa’s second largest multi-fund manager and Magda has grown its assets from R2bn to R160bn in just over a decade. Now, under Magda’s watch, Sygnia is setting its sights on international growth.
What many people don’t know is that Magda roots were not quite as auspicious. Having arrived in South Africa at the age of 13 after spending a year in an Austrian refugee camp, Magda had to learn to speak English and Afrikaans in order to survive a rigid schooling in Pretoria.
Now, for the first time at a Heavy Chef event, Magda Wierzycka is going to reveal the struggles and the triumphs in becoming one of South Africa’s first female actuarial science graduates and then emerging as a true powerhouse in South Africa’s male dominated financial services industry.
Tickets for the September 18th event in Cape Town can be purchased on Quicket or the Heavy Chef website: https://www.heavychef.com/blog/2017/8/24/event-magda-wierzycka-cape-town-the-story-of-an-extraordinary-entrepreneur.
