Does exactly what it says on the tin

Never underestimate the power of simple words to reflect the most deeply held human traits. I was trying to explain to a callow youth why successive texts stating that he would return at eleven o’clock, then eleven-thirty, then twelve, then twelve-thirty, were a bad idea. People like consistency, they like it very much; yet more than consistency what we want is the quality that is contained in the expression made famous by the Ronseal adverts, ‘it does exactly what it says on the tin’. Do… Continue

Consumers warned to tighten belts

As the number of South Africans who are falling deeper into debt grows, the National Credit Regulator has warned consumers to tighten their belts this festive season.

Problem with government: (response to a discussion on a social network, adapted into an article)

Governments start of good. And they have great ideals for the people by the people. They tax the rich and help the poor. Eradicate poverty this way and all are better of for it. But government normally does not relinquish power once things stabilize. They keep the reigns in firm grip. Why I don’t know. It can be because of individual megalomania or of a grand hocus pocus conspiracies. And the fact of the matter is that power (even though rooted in good) becomes a magnet for corruption.… Continue
