Hi Faadiel, We use Hetzner for most domain registrations / hosting.  For domain name searches, look at http://co.za/ ;

Chris, that's an statistic for Ruby not Rails. Rails hosting has gotten much better, though not as ubiquitous as php hosting its still getting much better as more web shops adopt rails. As for Rails being resource intensive, that depends on…

From looking at the Tiobe stats and general feel from speaking to other developers I always thought that Ruby/Rails has no long term future...The language constructs are too hard to get use to for most developers.Rails is very resource hungry and…

I'd be perfect for this gig but I'm unfortunately still in the USA. Here's my blog: http://www.ignitedcoder.com - Good luck with your search I'm sure you'll find a good developer.

I could write a long and detailed critique but that won't help you much, instead I'd like to suggest that you read Save the Pixel - http://www.savethepixel.org/ - it will give you some good pointers.   Enjoy

@Peter, they do indeed look cool. I've got an Asus 10" Netbook and its pretty decent. I'm thinking this is so important along the lines of bringing more of the kids in SA online and into the 21st century so to speak. If you have the…

How come this isn't happening in South Africa? If it is then I stand corrected...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Laptop_per_ChildAmerican kids have laptops from age 9 and up, some even sooner. Technology is changing the way we interact and live. Regards,FaadielSee More

What does it take to raise VC?

Folks,

I've been living in USA for 14 years now and planning to return to SA in the not to distant future. I have an idea for a .com but I have little to no knowledge of what SA VC's are looking for in a business plan. The US has very specific requirements and my assumption is that it would be the same in SA. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,
Faadiel
