A much needed group for those in the Biotech related industry...There's just too many great minds out there with phenomenal ideas - this group will serve as a catalyst to getting those ideas off the lab bench and into successful companies.

Venture Lab's technology Entrepreneurship course has just opened up (started today), I've been through it before and participating again this year - with primary focus on seeing how the course can be used for Biotech startups.. So if interested in taking your idea further, or to refresh some learnings signup here: https://venture-lab.org/
And of course, let me know your thoughts..

Comment by Philipp Steiner on February 12, 2013 at 23:24 Thank you Suza for the suggestion and responding to my comment.
You have lined-up a very nice set of speakers and interesting topics, but I don't see in the program a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their opportunities. Entrepreneurs need a platform to present (and coaches to get them ready for that!). I say this from my own experience at www.cleantech.com events and having been coached for a successful presentation at the 1st CTI/PFAN Africa Forum for Clean Energy Financing.
The reality I refer to below in my original comment is very much that of 'nice talks' by the investor community, but very little readiness to walk the talk with the entrepreneurs, especially at the frontiers of the bio-resources economy.

Comment by Philipp Steiner on February 12, 2013 at 21:32 Our activities focus on converting biomass into chemicals .. the biomass that farmers don't need, like maize cobs. Basically, we improved a recipe that has been around since the early 1920s .. but was overshadowed by the oil-industry. In short: Antiretroviral and other drugs, Lycra or Nylon, fuel additives/enhancers, wood treatment (replacing toxic CCA!) or green ag-chemicals and a growing market, just a few examples of how our bio-renewable chemicals can replace (and outperform) oil/coal/gas derived products.
We're past the lab-bench and piloting phases and are now in the real entrepreneurial stage that faces the SA realities of raising finance for bio-based business ..
