The Silicon Cape Initiative

We see people discussing Silicon Cape, challenges and more, knowing very little (if any) about each other's startup.

Use this opportunity to introduce your Startup, where it's based, what phase it is in and how things are coming along.

Hey fellow SiliconCape members..

I am currently involved with two start-ups:

1) An online financial trading platform addressing a key shortfall in the market.
Currently at an early stage and seeking a strategic partner with an IT background.

2) An eco-tourism business that offers our customers an opportunity to use our product as a means of generating revenue from available land they are not currently exploiting.

I was placed second in the National Innovation Competition (institution phase: September 2009) for the concept and I am currently looking for a strategic partner with BUSINESS OPERATIONS and TOURISM experience.

These two concepts will be my added contribution to making the world spin..looking forward to hearing what others are busy rattling their minds around..

Wishing you all the best of luck. Make it happen!
I would be keen to hear about your financial services platform. I have a few projects on the go in this area and if nothing else, perhaps we could create some synergies. My cell is 082 962 1998

Hey All Silicon Capetonians

Francis and I have started www.diletto.co.za about one and a half years ago, and we have been online for a year now.

Diletto is an Online Deli focussing on exclusive and premium deli products.

Online sales are slow, but marketing and advertising certainly has an impact, we have just been running on fumes, so growth has been slow, but that has allowed us to grow strongly as opposed to quickly.

We are now looking at International opportinities for export.

The daily challenge is connecting with our target market online and offline. Online shopping is slowly gaining momentum in SA.

All the best to you all!

QCF Design is a game development studio.
Started in November 2007, currently at 2 fulltime employees, adding a 3rd (business development/marketing) in October. We've got a healthy relationship with a number of contractors we pull in for projects as needed.

Currently we build games for clients that have specific needs. Recently we've been getting a lot of interest and business around building mobile games with marketing messages in them. In the past we've built everything from boardgames to educational games.

We want to be making games that earn us revenue in the international market. There's plenty of scope for indie developers like us to make good, we just need the budgets. That's why we're looking for funding to capitalise on our success in Microsoft's DreamBuildPlay contest last year, netting a spot in the top 20 with our Xbox 360 game, SpaceHack.

Games are huge. In both earnings and cultural impact. They're going to be even bigger still as the lessons game designers learn from their craft start being applied in the everyday world (think usability on steroids - I want to redesign a Maths exam paper at some point), that's why I've been running Game.Dev, a local game development community for the past 5 years on zero budget. We do some pretty cool stuff, which is why I'm excited to have a community like Silicon Cape that seems to play by terms I understand. I hope participation here is as rewarding for me!

FireID is one of the Stellenbosch startups currently based in Technopark. It started as a res-room project, which quickly got out of hand; mostly due to the funding we got from Justin Stanford and Erik van Vlaanderen.

We're not one of those new-fangled Web 2.0 consumer facing startups with cute names and rounded borders. We build enterprise security systems for VPNs and online banking. Some would call that boring, others might note that it's a massive market if you can produce the right product.

If you guys feel like hunting around on the site (http://www.fireid.com/) you might just find Justin's mug shot hidden away ;)
Malan, love your work with FireID bud. I remember Justin explaining it to me a while back, when you were still in the early stages and its awesome to see how it has evolved. Keep it up!

Hello Everyone

I have hosted FREE mmorpg private servers for 7 years.

I am now developing an emulator for the new game AION.

My next project will be to find investors to set up a big game server locally where players can download and play MMO and FPS games for free. I currently have a total of 30k international members on existing forums.
