The Silicon Cape Initiative

Hi we have two new partners joining and I was hopping to tap the collective wisdom on Shareholders Agreements

What works ?
What doesn't work?
Any anecdotes ?
Do You write it yourself and then go to a lawyer to finalize it?
Any clauses that saved your buttocks ?

William, definitely see a lawyer for a document like this. It need not be long and convoluted but it needs to be done properly.
Hi William, you can save yourself a lot of money by writing it and then letting your lawyer look it over. I can send you a sample if you like, then you at least have something to work from. Oh yes make sure there is an exit strategy. You might not want to spend the rest of your life with some of your partners, and it would be wise to ensure this is included before hand, much like a prenuptial agreement, no one thinks they would ever need one when they get married with starts in their eyes, and love in their hearts. Good luck. Audrey
