Event Description

Startup Weekends are 2 day events where developers, designers, marketers, product managers, entrepreneurs and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch a startup!

PITCH IT. WORK IT. LAUNCH IT!

Startup Weekends are weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable.  On average, half of Startup Weekend’s attendees have technical backgrounds, the other half have business backgrounds.

Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees are encouraged to bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams design and develop business plans while constantly streamlining their startup vision.  On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes, listen to judges’ feedback and win prizes.

Startup Weekends are specifically designed for people who want to learn more about becoming an entrepreneur, people interested in receiving feedback on an idea, looking for a business partner, or who want to learn a new skill. We also welcome anyone looking to test the entrepreneurial waters.  Startup Weekends are risk-free environments where everyone is expected to roll up their sleeves and dive into the exhilarating world of startups

There is a minimal cover charge for the weekend of R500 per attendee - this covers things like wireless internet, 5 meals and refreshments and the Startup Weekend facilitator that has to be flown in from the USA.

The event organisers are all volunteers and will in no way benefit financially from this event.

This is the first Startup Weekend event that has been held in Sub-Saharan Africa and the third in the continent.

World class Startup Weekend experience here at the The Hub in Cape Town. Startups who aren't here are missing out BIG TIME!

Again, my biggest problem with all Ticket sites in SA is User Experience. Actually, it's a sever problem with 90% of SA sites. Perhaps one day we'll get there...

@petrus - While assisting with research for the SW ticketing in SA I found many ticketing solutions available in SA. Many of these platforms support mobile/sms ticketing...

Web ticketing is a big market I've been meaning to get into, but it's too saturated. Bit late to the table - more value elsewhere. Maybe we should pitch it anyway, Rob? Definitely a market for cellphone tickets that does *not* make you fetch a ticket at some Computicket in Brackenfell's Checkers.

Totally!

Tix been available for about a month and of course, on launch day - the site decides its no longer interested in working !

New interface Rob - want the job? I smell a startup!

There are so many poor ticket sites!

I managed to reserve fine. I assume that they closed online sales so close to the event. There will be tickets available at the door though.

Seriously, build me a good simple interface for registering for events and tickets!
